Wheatland adopts property tax exemptions for seniors and disabled residents

NY WHEATLAND — Wheatland Town Board unanimously approves property tax exemptions for low-income seniors and disabled residents. The five-member board, led by Supervisor Jim Kirch, voted 5-0 to adopt two amended local laws allowing reduced property tax assessments for qualified seniors and persons with disabilities who meet state-defined income thresholds. The board also approved a $600 expenditure with ABS for a mailer to notify residents of the changes.
The amendments implement New York State direction on how local governments grant property tax relief to vulnerable populations.
